Tatek.ai Privacy Policy
Last Modified: August 30, 2025
1. Introduction
Tatek.ai (“Tatek,” “Company,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) provides education technology services that allow teachers to digitize worksheets, assign them to students, collect submissions, provide grading (manual or automated), and export results for gradebooks.
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use Tatek.ai (the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to this Policy and our Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please discontinue use.
We may update this Policy from time to time. If material changes are made, we will notify you via email or in-app notice. Continued use after updates means acceptance of the revised Policy.
2. Who Uses Tatek.ai
- Teachers/Educators purchase and use Tatek directly. Teachers are responsible for ensuring they have obtained any required authorization from their school or district before using Tatek with students.
- Students access assignments created by their teachers.
3. Children’s Privacy (COPPA & FERPA)
We are committed to protecting student privacy and complying with applicable U.S. laws, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Consent Required: We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to use Tatek without verifiable parental consent or consent obtained by a teacher/school acting as the parent’s agent under COPPA.
- Teacher Responsibility: If consent has not been obtained by the educational institution, the teacher or administrator must obtain parental consent before allowing a student under 13 to use Tatek.
- Student Accounts: When a teacher adds a student, we create a profile linked to the existing email provided by the teacher. We do not issue new usernames or email addresses.
- Age-Gating and Minimization: We limit collection of personal information from children to no more than is reasonably necessary to provide the educational service.
- If We Learn of Improper Collection: If we discover that we have collected information from a child under 13 without required consent, we will disable access and delete that information.
- FERPA Approach: Tatek does not contract directly with school districts and is not a “school official” under FERPA. However, we treat student submissions, grades, and related data as education records and protect them as personal information. Teachers (and their schools, if applicable) remain responsible for compliance with FERPA.
4. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide our Services:
- Educators: name, email, and authentication method (Google Sign-In or passwordless email link).
- Students: name and email (entered by teacher), assignment submissions, grades/feedback, and timestamps.
- Usage Data: device information, browser type, IP address, and activity logs for security and troubleshooting.
- Communications: support requests or messages sent to us.
We do not collect: school names, postal addresses, phone numbers, personal bios, or student payment information.
5. Accounts & Authentication
- When a teacher adds a student to a class, Tatek automatically creates a student profile linked to the teacher-provided email.
- We do not generate new usernames or email addresses.
- We support Google Sign-In and passwordless email links.
- We do not store passwords, and we do not provide password creation or password-change features.
6. How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide and operate the Services (authentication, assignment delivery, submission tracking, grading, CSV export).
- AI/LLM-Assisted Grading: For AI-assisted grading and feedback, Tatek never trains internal models on student data. We also require third-party AI providers to use student data solely to process requests and not to train their models.
- Enforce role-based access so that teachers can only see their own classes and assignments, and students can only see their own classes and assignments.
- Communicate with teachers (e.g., account updates, support).
- Maintain and improve the Services, including high-level, de-identified analytics (e.g., feature usage, user counts).
We do not:
- Sell personal information.
- Advertise to students.
- Use student data for targeted advertising or data mining.
7. Marketing to Teachers
We may send optional product updates and marketing communications to teachers. Teachers can opt out at any time via the unsubscribe link or by contacting support@tatek.ai.
We do not advertise to students, and we do not use student data for marketing.
8. How We Share Information
We share information only as necessary to operate the Services:
- With service providers (e.g., hosting, authentication, email delivery, limited AI evaluation) who are contractually bound to use data only for providing services to Tatek and protecting it appropriately.
- For legal/safety reasons if required by law, regulation, or to protect rights and security.
- Business transfers in case of merger or acquisition (subject to the same protections).
Testimonials: With an educator’s consent, we may display teacher testimonials. Student testimonials, if any, will be posted only anonymously or with explicit consent (and, if under 13, with verified parental/guardian consent).
We do not sell personal information or share student data for advertising.
9. Data Security
We implement administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, including:
- Encryption in transit.
- Access controls limiting data visibility by role.
- Regular monitoring for vulnerabilities.
- No password storage: we do not store passwords for Google Sign-In or passwordless login.
No system is 100% secure, but we take commercially reasonable steps to protect personal information.
10. Breach & Incident Response
If Tatek becomes aware of a data breach impacting personal information, we will provide notification consistent with applicable laws. This may include email notifications, in-app notices, or posting on our website. We will also investigate, remediate, and document incidents, and, if appropriate, notify law enforcement.
11. Cookies & Local Storage
We use essential cookies and local storage only for:
- Authentication and session continuity.
- Security.
- Basic, de-identified analytics (e.g., usage patterns, feature activity, user counts).
Disabling cookies may impair core features (e.g., login). We do not use Flash technologies, and we do not use student data for advertising.
12. Deletion & Teacher Controls
- Remove a Student from a Class: Teachers may remove a student at any time, which deletes that student’s submissions, grades, and associated records from that class.
- Delete Teacher Account: Teachers may delete their account, which also deletes all associated student data linked to that teacher’s classes.
- 60-Day Buffer: Deletion requests are processed within 60 days. During this period, teachers may reinstate accounts. After this period, all data is permanently deleted from active systems and removed from backups on their normal cycle.
We may retain de-identified or aggregated data for service improvement.
13. State Privacy Rights
Residents of certain U.S. states (e.g., California, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Virginia) may have rights to access, delete, or correct their personal information. Tatek does not sell personal information.
- Teachers: may send requests to support@tatek.ai.
- Students: requests should be directed through the student’s teacher.
14. U.S.-Only Service
The Services are operated in and intended for use in the United States. By using the Services, you understand your information will be processed in the U.S.
